Spell the Month in Books: June 2021

Welcome back to Spell the Month in Books! It was originally created by Reviews from the Stacks!

This is another short month so hopefully it will be easy enough!

My theme for this month is going to be Fantasy!

J – Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

Jurassic Park (Jurassic Park, #1)

Synopsis

An astonishing technique for recovering and cloning dinosaur DNA has been discovered. Now humankind’s most thrilling fantasies have come true. Creatures extinct for eons roam Jurassic Park with their awesome presence and profound mystery, and all the world can visit them—for a price.

Until something goes wrong. . . .

In Jurassic Park, Michael Crichton taps all his mesmerizing talent and scientific brilliance to create his most electrifying technothriller.

This probably doesn’t really count for fantasy but I was struggling! I have never read this book and I’ve also not actually seen the films, although they are on my watch list!

U – Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Uglies (Uglies, #1)

Synopsis

Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can’t wait. In just a few weeks she’ll have the operation that will turn her from a repellent ugly into a stunning pretty. And as a pretty, she’ll be catapulted into a high-tech paradise where her only job is to have fun.

But Tally’s new friend Shay isn’t sure she wants to become a pretty. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world—and it isn’t very pretty. The authorities offer Tally a choice: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. Tally’s choice will change her world forever….

I adored this series when I was younger and would love to reread them! I think it’s being made into a film although I’m not 100% sure. Again this probably falls more into science-fiction but ah well!

N – Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

Ninth House (Alex Stern #1)

Synopsis

Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. By age twenty, in fact, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most elite universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?

Still searching for answers to this herself, Alex arrives in New Haven tasked by her mysterious benefactors with monitoring the activities of Yale’s secret societies. These eight windowless “tombs” are well-known to be haunts of the future rich and powerful, from high-ranking politicos to Wall Street and Hollywood’s biggest players. But their occult activities are revealed to be more sinister and more extraordinary than any paranoid imagination might conceive.

This has been on my TBR for a while and I am dying to read it! It sounds so good and I can’t wait to get attached to new characters.

E – Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas

Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5)

Synopsis

The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius as war looms on the horizon. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don’t.

With her heart sworn to the warrior-prince by her side, and her fealty pledged to the people she is determined to save, Aelin will delve into the depths of her power to protect those she loves. But as monsters emerge from the horrors of the past, and dark forces become poised to claim her world, the only chance for salvation will lie in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.

In this breathtaking fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series, Aelin will have to choose what—and who—to sacrifice if she’s to keep the world of Erilea from breaking apart.

I adore this book and am planning to reread this series soon! I love the characters and the story and I am just obsessed with it!

That’s it for today’s post! Have you read any of these and can you think of any better options for J and U?
