Hi everyone! I’m back with February’s Best of the Decade! I saw this on FangirlFlax’s blog and thought it was such a fun idea. Mine won’t quite be best of the decade but that sounds better than best of seven/eight years!
Unfortunately, I didn’t have Goodreads before March 2013 so I will be going from February 2014 until February 2020 and voting on which book was my favourite of that month, and then deciding on an overall winner! I’m excited for this trip down memory lane as I have no idea what I was reading in February last year let alone years ago!
2014
My documentation in 2014 is awful but I believe this is what I read:
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (for school)
My favourite out of these is definitely The Fault in Our Stars!
2015
The documentation for February 2015 is also a bit off but I think this is what I read!:
The Kill Order by James Dashner
City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
As I didn’t like The Kill Order as much as the other Maze Runner books, this year’s winner is City of Fallen Angels!
2016
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
I think 2016 was the first year I discovered the Throne of Glass books and fell in love with them! Therefore, my winner has got to be Queen of Shadows. Although, I do feel a bit mean as I loved Second Chance Summer too!
2017
Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare
An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters and Denizens of Downworld by Cassandra Clare and Cassandra Jean
The Shadow Queen by C. J. Redwine
Heartless by Marissa Meyer
The Next Together by Lauren James
Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy destroyed me, but I think Heartless did more, so that is 2017’s winner!
2018
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Frost Blood by Elly Blake
Fire Blood by Elly Blake
My winner for this has to be Frostblood, I adore that trilogy and it does not get the recognition it deserves!
2019
Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas
What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
The 100 by Kass Morgan
The 100: Day 21 by Kass Morgan
The 100: Homecoming by Kass Morgan
I wasn’t a big fan of The 100 books and I think the show is so much better. But this is hard because I want to say Kingdom of Ash but I really enjoyed What If It’s Us so I feel like I’m picking favourites! My heart is telling me to choose Kingdom of Ash!
2020
A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer
This is the only book I finished in 2020 so A Heart So Fierce and Broken is winner by default!
I’m very conscious that Empire of Storms won by January favourite, so I want to try and mix it up for February! I would give it to Queen of Shadows, but for the sake of being different, my February book of the decade is…
Heartless is the best of February!
This post has made me want to reread every book I own again! Would you rank my choices differently? And are any of your favourites in my lists?
Georgia x
I’m ruthlessly thrown back to childhood when I see those original Shadowhunter covers 😅 Also wild to think that Kingdom of Ash was already two years ago…can’t believe it!

I love those covers and I’m so mad because my copies of Infernal Devuces don’t match cause Amazon sent the wrong cover for one!😡 I know! Neither can I, it seems like so long ago!

This makes me so nostalgic for my own past reading years! I definitely would have ranked Second Chance Summer above Queen of Shadows, though 😅

haha fair enough! I did really love Second Chance Summer (i think) but I just have a major soft spot for Queen of Shadows!

Fun tag! And your choices are great! I love the ToG series and basically anything SJM writes. lol And I haven’t read of Frost Blood, but it sounds really intriguing! I just added it to my TBR. 🙂

Thanks! Same haha, she’s my favourite author! I really enjoyed the trilogy and luckily they’re all out now so you won’t have to wait between them!

A wonderful look throughout the years! I love how so many fantastic YA titles made it to the top for you. 😛

Thanks! YA is pretty much all I used to read, I have branched out a bit now, but I’m still in the YA mindset!

Great tag and post! I got Goodreads in 2020, so my records before are almost non-existent. I love your choices! 😀

Thanks! Yeah I’m quite proud I didn’t give up on it as I loved creating this post and seeing what I’d read!

I love looking back on what I read, too! If I’m able to go back through my bookshelves, I hope to try this out for March..and if not, then maybe April…One day, it will be done haha

Yes, I felt the same when creating this post. As some of them haven’t been read since 2014 which is shocking to me!

I’m planning to start Shadowhunter series this year, but found that there are four ways to start it. Which would you recommend- Chronological or publication dates?

Personally I read it in publication dates I think. I had no idea there were four ways to read them! I read City of Bones to City of Ashes then the Infernal Devices trilogy and then the last three books of The Mortal Instruments. At least I think I did this, I also may have read the Infernal Devices right before City of Heavenly Fire, but I think they fit better in the middle of the series if that makes sense!

It’s a huge series and I want to keep a track of things so like you said I’m going to start from City of Bones. Thanks Georgia🤗

I loved this post, it’s got me feeling all nostalgic! I love SJM so much but I’m glad you picked Heartless, it’s such a great read! I haven’t read Frost Blood yet but there’s no way I’m not adding it to my TBR after reading it’s synopsis! 🥰✨

Yeah, I didn’t want SJM to take the top spot every month as I fear it may do! So now that I already have Empire of Storms for January, hopefully the other months I can pick slightly different books!
Yes Frostblood is so good, I hope you enjoy it!

What an interesting post! Although I didn’t read for like 7 years so I’m not sure if I could fill out every year haha

Thanks! Haha yeah my documentation for the early years is a bit dodgy, also because goodreads wouldn’t let you document multiple reads for a while!

Love this idea!! I’ll have to check and see when I started actually documenting my books, I have a feeling it wasn’t as long ago as I’m hoping haha

Even so it’s still fun to look back at what you’ve read!

I know we have very similar reading tastes, so I’m not sure how I missed Frost Blood, but I just added it to my TBR!

Love your list! So many great books on here–I have to resist the urge to do a Shadowhunters reread now! I also really have to read Heartless now…

Thanks! Yes you have to read Heartless! Part of me wants to reread Shadowhunters but I just don’t know where I’d find the time at the moment!

You have so many of my favourites on here! Heartless vs SJM would definitely be a tough choice, but I would have probably picked Heartless too 😃 Looking forward to your post for March, this is such a fun tag!

Haha it was difficult! I’m excited to do March too!

This is such a cool and fun idea! Unfortunately, I didn’t become consistent in recording my reads until like 3 years ago so I’m not even gonna attempt this, haha. Admittedly, the only books I’ve read here are The Kill Order, The Fault in Our Stars, and Frankenstein, none of which were particularly favorites of mine. I do need to pick up Heartless eventually though.

Thanks! I loved putting this together, and even what I read three years ago surprised me! It was fun to look back on. I really recommend Heartless, it was so good and had me feeling very emotional!
